I have seen several references to Cameron having a husband at one point, including tonight's episode, but apparently I missed the episode that explained what ever happened to him.

In an earlier episode Cameron was upset with house because her patient had stage three cancer and she refused to accept the diagnosis. House told her to tell the girl that she was dying but cameron drug her feet. Wilson got involved to confirm the diagnosis but in the end House demanded that Cameron break the news to her patient. House made her tell him what her problem was. He figured it had something to do with some one she lost. It turned out to be her fiancee' who she agreed to marry because he had cancer. This was revisited when she forced House into a date and he pointed out to her that she was only into him because she has a thing for damaged people. As for the cancer patient, eventually Cameron had to tell her that she was terminal. It seems everytime Cameron has to tell somebody bad news they bring up the story of her and her ex. They also talk about how she was a fatso at one time.

Cameron is a widow. She found out her fiancee had terminal cancer yet she married him anyway, knowing their time together would be very short. That's why she tends to get emotional over terminal patients and partly the reason she went after House way back in the beginning of the series..she tends to gravitate towards people who need to be "fixed"

i think it was cancer but i'm not positive...
