The Jewel of the Empire, as India was known prior to 1948. Britain "owned" India. It was a major part of the British Empire for many years and, as I suggested before, their most prized possession! In what way couldn't western imperialists affect India? To this day many many Indians have "tea time" and cricket is still one of the most popular sports!

firstly i hate the British lol, my parents are from India and i was born in Ireland so you can probably guess why but as much as i hate them, they did actually improve the country- the railways, etc.
and I'm still confused as to why people wanted freedom from Britain, i mean i can understand the cruelty and wanting the yr own government but the British brought about some changes for the good aswell. and why are Indians now days running after western culture?? after going back to India you can see that they think theyr "modern and westernized" simply by the girls wearing slutty skirts and the young generation speaking English thinking its cool and just forgetting about theyr own roots and stuff.
and one last thing why do the majority of Indian people think its cooler to speak English than theyr own languages? back when the Indians wanted freedom theyr refused to speak English and now they think theyr great speaking it, if they like it so much why did they kick the Brits out in the first place?
This doesn't really answer your question i think lol but i was just sharing my point of views lol.
