being a curious person, I'd like to know what everybody thinks about these statistics of single parents

Single parents account for 27 percent of family households with children under 18. 1

More than two million fathers are the primary caregivers of children under 18,
a 62 percent increase since 1990. 2

One in two children will live in a single-parent family at some point in childhood. 3

One in three children is born to unmarried parents. 3

Between 1978 and 1996, the number of babies born to unmarried women per year quadrupled from 500,000 to more than two million. 4

The number of single mothers increased from three million to 10 million between
1970 and 2000.

I apoligize for the numbers after the statistics (1,2,3,4 etc.) They were links to their validity and I forgot to cut them out.

None of this shocks me. I would like to know how many single mothers and fathers are under age 18 as well. I'm sure THAT would be staggaring.

I actually think 27% is low for single parent households at any given time throughout the year, when they also say one in TWO kids will be in a single parent home at some point in their childhood.

Well, I guess I make up part of those numbers...I'm not a single parent, we live together, though we were married before the kids were born....I am the primary caregiver, he provides the $$. They were born to unmarried parents, they don't know it but one day will. We still try to make life normal even though we don't have the rings or paper...so we make up the statistic, but it really doesn't make the statistic accurate, because even though there are single parents or unmarried, doesn't actually mean tthe kids are being raised by only one parent...

I think it's great. To me it means more women are proving you don't have to have a man around to get things done. That women are stronger today and can handle what life throws their way. That women can get off there butts, stay off of welfare and work 2-3 jobs to support their young. Go Single Mothers!!!!!

when you remove the foundation of traditional family and omit the spiritual authority and protection of the father, this makes for "easy pickings" for government programs and problems in the long run.

I think...statistically...very seldom do the statistics and the reality bear anything but a passing resemblance.
