Carlos D said it best, and, expounding on his answer, the war for Iraqi Freedom going on now, has been victorious for quite some time. I know because, from among other reasons, my son came back alive and well from his second tour of duty in Iraq and the son of friends of mine, a Major in the Army, also recently came back from Afghanistan, and both tell very enlightening and victorious answers that the media definitely does not want you to know about. God Bless you. Oh, and I think we did good in Bosnia too. And the count keeps on getting higher.

Strictly from a military point of view, America has never lost a war. We have not always achieved the long term political consequence we wanted, as in Vietnam. But we did not lose Vietnam. We caused the North a bit over one million dead military personnel (by their own admission no less!!) for about 56,000 allied killed. That is an 18-1 kill ratio. When we left, there was a functioning south vietnamese government that stood another 2 years or so. They lost their own country, not us.

If i am not mistaken this is the first war we have been involved in since that time.

Pure definition of win in the sense of war would place this as being a win due to the fact that we entered and removed the occupying army suffered very few casualties and while the country is in a state of disarray that in the end is not a determining factor in judging such actions.

World War II was the last war we were in, if you are talking about wars declared by Congress according to the Constitution. Everything else has been a police action of some sort.

Vietnam. Congress quit. We beat the Cong in every battle. Even in TET. We broke their backs and Lyndon allowed them to rebuild each time. We won. But lost the country to politicians. I was there. I saw it.
Grenada, if you call it a war.
Gulf war I. If you call it a war.
All of these skirmishes were just that. None of the little battles, including the current one compared to Vietnam.
It is not really a matter of winning. It is the politicians not allowing it to be fought correctly,
