They are also called hurricanes like most parts of the world but they also known locally as a willy-willy (don't ask me why).

A big one is called a "cyclone". A smaller one is referred to as a "tropical storm". We name them too, like "Cyclone Tracy" which trashed Darwin back in the 70s, or "Tropical Storm Katrina."

A willy willy is not a hurricane, it's a desert wind phenomenon, like a dust devil or a twister.
