'Knucklehead' is classic US slang dating back to the period of World War II. Meaning a "stupid person" or slow-witted person, it was first recorded in 1944.

It came from someone getting hit in the head for being stupid...Hence the word "knuckle-head" Or for someone getting a "noogy" on the head for being silly.

It just means 'idiot'. I don't know where it came from, but it's a great word.
