Fingers get stuck like that,
more hand injuries are caused by so called romantic hand holding than any other activity on a first date.

interlacing fingers is romantic, not necessarily as romantic as cuddling on the couch. but it make you feel connected to the person you are holding hand with. it shows unity and eventually, when the relationship has been going for a while it becomes second nature and feels normal and like you've been doing it forever.
