Hi,

I believe this law is absurd. Why is it that it is illegal for a 16 year old to engage in sexual acts with a 15 year old, but its legal for, lets say, a 50 year old to engage in sexual acts with an 18 year old?

I do not believe it should matter what the ages are of the partners, as long as both partners consent and the feelings are mutual.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

The states establish age limits at which they feel a person is old enough to make an informed decision to have sex when they set the statutory rape laws. If you are under that age limit, you are considered to be a child, and a child is not considered to be fully able to make an informed decision.

Do you really think it would be all right for a 13 year old to consent to sex? Even if they say yes, they don't understand all the ramifications of the sexual act.
