I'm considering starting a Gay-Straight Alliance class at my school, except there's one big flaw. I have no idea what people do in those meetings! Do they just get together and talk or something?

Sorry about the clowns just racking up answer points at your expense. Some of what they say is true, but they don't have to be so smart-alecky and crude.
I would try to get hold of the teacher sponsor of a GSA chapter at another school and find out what their experience has been, good and bad (you probably won't be allowed to contact any of the students directly). It is true that some schools have successful chapters with several members and some just can't get any momentum going.
You might also contact a PFLAG chapter to see what activities they sponsor.
Good luck.

Try getting in touch with your local pflag chapter, or http://www.pflag.org/ if you don't have a local one. They will be happy to help you with ideas to start a GSA and what to do once its started. Please don't let the militants on this site scare you off from doing a great thing. We had a GSA a LONG LONG time ago when I was in high school, back when they were mostly unheard of. It was a great way to not only educate straight people, but help gay teens who were confused and afraid. Good luck!

we had GSA at my old high school. A lot of people thought it was interesting. Before it starts explain to the school its a club for all people and it isn't a club for turning straight people gay like some think. Its a place to get together and discuss issues in the world.. look it up online and get the info

There is a great website that outlines how to start a club like this and what to do at meetings. The website is http://gsani.com/, which stands for gay straight alliance network international. If you do some research your club could be a huge positive improvement for your school.

that is a great idea! i have a GSA at my sxhool and we meet at lunch on thursdays. we talk about lagistics first and people can share stories ( remember, anyone can come whether they are gay OR straight) then sometimes wew have guest speakers and we talk abvout ways we could maube get these organizations to talk to the whole school. we schedule fundraisers and after all the practical stuff is done we just hang and eat food!

You might try the GLSEN site (google it; I'm guessing it's just GLSEN.org but I'm not sure) for more ideas, but at my college they coordinated day of silence, tried to hold some event for coming out day, and aside from that mixed up meetings between heavier Discussion topics and lighter game nights (the steering committee would make like...gay taboo for example, with all queer words). What to focus on depends mostly on what your specific group wants to do. You might focus more on educating the rest of the campus, or on letter-writing and other activism. Ours served mostly just as safe-space; a social group.

Look it up online! Just search for the club (or whatever) at a site like Google. You'll get all kinds of information, including club formation and agendas.

Waste of time. Start a ping pong club or something.
There's GSA at my school. I don't think there's even 1 member.

It's a place for all people, no matter what orientation, to talk about issues such as homophobia and prejudice, and for people to share their own experiences.

Dude, I think that's a bad idea.....You don't see straight kids starting groups about straight kids...it's fkn moronic.
If you're gay, find some other dude to hold hands with and to talk to....
No one cares that people are gay anymore, they just don't want to have a ******* parade everytime someone "comes out".....
