i have 4 tiger oscars in a 55 gallon tank right now, about 3.5" - 5". i know that it is to small, but how long till you think they will pair off for mateing? once they do pair off, i'm only going to keep 2 in the tank and sell the other to the petstore. do u think that a pair of oscars can live in a 55 gallon tank? petsmart said that they needed 30+ gallon for one, and 20+ for everyone after the first one (for the adult size of 12 inches.) need info on mateing

Yep, at least 75 gallons for the pair when they decide to breed. Here's a pretty good site with some additional information you might find helpful.

You cannot mate oscars in a 55 gallon tank.. Oscars only breed in 150 gallons or more and they have to be about 25 inches or more. But they do pair off for life. and they only breed on slate. no gravel. Sorry to tell you that. I had a 200 gallon tank breed two.. they are live bearers and are very good parents. My oscars were the size of a large small dog.. trust me .. unless you have the room forget it..

It took my Oscars about a month to pair off. But still, a 55 gallon is not enough for two full grown Oscars. They need about 55 gallons per each Oscar. I have a 125 gallon tank for my Oscars.

I have one oscar in my 55 gallon tank and thats pushing it. Having two in one 55 tank wouldn't seem fair to the fish...These fish can grown to be up to 16-18 inches max size. Imagine two fish longer than a ruler in a 55 gallon tank! Try to just think about upgrading in the future. Oscars are the most friendly fish around, they love there owners, we can even pet our oscar!

oscars need at least a 75 gallon tank to spawn and raise fry, i think they will pair off by 5 inches or so. good luck, by the way you can create the illussion of more space by doing 10% water changes every dew days until they pair off, they will grow faster

About 5-6 inches.

They're right about the 55 being too small... as soon as the eggs are fertilized, one of them will be murderized.
