What are the factors that cause people to be cruel...average people who are seemingly very nice people...Why would anyone want to deliberately hurt someone else? Either their feelings or physically?

I could probably apply this question to driving. I drive and I have a lot of pet peeves. Maybe I need to emphasize that... I have A LOT of pet peeves. I hate it when people tailgate, run redlights, cut you off, don't use their signal, drive too fast, weave in and out of traffic and don't yield when necessary.

I understand that's a lot to abide by. But I don't understand why drivers can't give other drivers space. Isn't it courteous to come to a stop at a safe distance? Why stop inches from a car's bumper? I just don't get it.

I think many people take their anger out on the road. If they've had a bad day, they'll be more prone to disregard the rules of the road and take it out on someone else.

They somehow feel that they need to show frustration to make up for their bad day.

Then there are people who are just mean.

I admit that I am guilty of my own pet peeves. And I catch myself doing them when I'm frustrated.

Maybe in a more general sense, customer service could be an aspect. If you think about it, most of us have encountered salespeople who are just plain rude. When it happens to me, I wonder what happened in their life for them to act that way. I try not to take it personally because they don't know me. I keep telling myself that, but it's hard to believe.

Why did I write so much?

Sorry.

Beats me--but I've been witnessing that type of behavior since I was in grammar school--and over and over as my six children grew up.

Some people are cruel because other people were cruel to them. They might want to hurt someone because they were hurt either physically or psychologically.

Other people turn out cruel due to peer pressure--to be one of the cool kids--it's a shame.

Sometimes I can be cruel, I have to admit. I don't do it in the first instance, I usually react if somebody is being cruel to me. For instance, I said some pretty damn cruel things to my husband when he told me he cheated.
