Telemarketers, credit card companies, etc.

There's one company that shows up as "Protel" on my caller ID and they are constantly calling, even after 6 pm. They called every half hour three times today (this company calls at least three times a day). I finally answered but there was a dead silence and then they hung up.

If someone does answer the next time, I just want to have the facts ready so that I could tell them to stop calling. If it IS illegal, is there proof?

Oh, that makes sense then. Just checked my caller ID and the latest they've called was around 7:40.

And yes, I'm already registered with Do Not Call.

Have you considered registering with the Do Not Call register?

That's one solution. Telemarketers are indeed a nuisance and I wish that our elected officials started getting those annoying calls at home so that they're realize how annoying those calls are for the rest of the citizenry, the taxpayers that pay their salaries.

I am under the impression that they can call from 8am to 8pm, if I am not mistaken; this applies to creditors (people you owe money to); most of those calls come from overseas, like India and Pakistan where most of the AMERICAN credit card companies that receive tax incentives and tax breaks from AMERICAN cities and states, that get AMERICAN protection and that want AMERICAN business and AMERICAN money but have decided to outsource jobs... instead of hiring AMERICANS!

Do as I used to do, I'd answer the telephone and as soon as they started out with their schpiel, I'd say, "Hold it a minute..." and I'd set the telephone down and leave it on the kitchen counter for a half hour... and then just hang it up! Can you imagine what was going on in the minds of the fool waiting for me to come back to the telephone? Then, I found out about the Do Not Call register.

IF you registered with the Do Not Call List, REPORT them! Get their telephone number OR name of the company they're calling for and report them! That's the only thing you can do. But, you can also inform them that you are on the Do Not Call List.... that might help resolve the situation (but report them if they persist). YES, it IS illegal if you're on the Do Not Call List and you can tell them that if they insist and persist, they are liable for legal action to be taken against them; be firm and, yes, it's OK to show you're annoy in whatever fashion you like... it's YOUR telephone and YOU pay for it and you ARE in YOUR OWN HOME!

I work as a phone solicitator or telemarketer and I have to stop calling people at 9pm.

Also if you are on the do not call list, then go to their website to file a complient. https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx

Also in order for you to file a complaint you must of signed up on the do not call list atleast 31 days ago and you need to have the date and number.

I think in many places telemarketers are permitted to call until 9:00 P.M. If you are on 'Do Not Call,' try telling them that you are on that list and repeat your request. That may motivate them to stop calling if they believe that they could be liable for legal action.

I think it's illegal for them to call after 8 pm.

I wish it were illegal. Or you could try what my mom did.

The next time Such-and-such company called, she gave them an earful of expletives and the like.

They haven't called since.

Or you could try my approach: Answer in a foreign language.

That always works for me.
