I have been working for 8 3/4 years at a company that insists I work at least 65 hours a week, while putting my wife through college. Now I only want to work 40-50 hours, and the boss says no, so I walked out today. I am looking for a job tomorrow, but what would you do?

Good move my man sounds like you were overworked and underapprecitated where you were. A good experienced employee that a company really wants to keep for the long haul will be willing to compromise when it comes to hours and make sure that there is'nt burnout. That many hours for that many years is just to much unless your working for yourself. good luck in the hunt.

I think that they should have reasoned with you, you have been with the company for a long time and deserve their respect. you have put in long hours and don't get to see your family as much. I think you made the right decision when walking out. You deserve more respect from them and shouldn't have to take that!

I would have walked out also, too much pressure may cause even more pressure.Find a job that is reasonable with your time and that can cooperate with you.I know jobs like that are hard to find, but it's worth it.
