Remember PEMDAS
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiplication/Division ---> whichever comes first
Addition/Substraction ---> whichever comes first
So, there are only divisions and subtractions in this problems, this means divisions are going to occurr first when calculating the answer.
(I'm going to divide the problem with parenthesis to make the order of operations more readable)
There are 2 divisions in the problem, 5/5 and 5/2. The division 5/5 came first. Then the quotient (quotient = result of a division) of 5/5 is divided by 2.
Let me summarize it now:
8 - ( (5/5) / 2 ) - 6
Let's do the operations inside the parenthesis:
( (5/5) / 2)
5/5 = 1
(5/5) / 2 = (1)/2 = 1/2 = 0.5
Now lets substitute all of those parenthesis and its contents with 0.5
8 - ( (5/5) / 2 ) - 6
turns into
8 - 0.5 - 6
Now, go from left to right, just like the divisions; (I will also separate the order of operations with parenthesis so you can see what you do first, etc.)
(8 - 0.5) - 6
8 - 0.5 = 7.5
Substitute the (8 - 0.5) with 7.5:
7.5 - 6
Now, just substract and the answer will be 1.5.

X and / are stronger than + and -
so you compute X and / before + and -
Your problem:
8 - 5/5/2-6
= 8-5 X 1/5 X 1/2-6
= 3 X 1/5 X 1/-3
= 3/5 X -1/3 (simplification)
= -1/5

The order of operations dictates that Exponents go first, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction- unless there are parentheses in there. After that, everything goes from left to right.
So, first you would divide 5 by 5 (getting 1), then divide that by 2 (getting 1/2). Then you would subtract that one half from the original 8 (getting 7 1/2), then subtract 6, getting 1 1/2.

1.5. the order of operations is PE|MD|AS| which stands for Parenthesis, Exponants, Multiplication and division, which is done left to right, and Addition and Subtraction, which also is done left to right. You can easily remember it by remembering the word Pemdas. Don't worry, once you get through 7th grade you will use a calculator.
