Hello, it's a HORSE!!! Does anyone else think some of the things people are saying about Barbaro are crazy? The poor thing was pushed until it 'broke'. What's so honorable about that? Personally I think they put it down for the 20 million in insurance money so they can get back some of the GOBS of money they spent on it's rehab. What do you think or have heard?

I am an animal lover and I am inclined to agree with you. I am not opposed to using animals to benefit humans, if it's done humanely, but this was exploitation. Unfortunately exploitation and sentimentality are not mutually exclusive.
And this talk of "wanting to help horses everywhere" on the part of the owners: if they are serious about this, they will stop horse-racing, at least in its present form. You know what happens to the horses that can't win the race, even if there's nothing wrong with them.

Well, if you know the story of seabiscuit you could understand that an animal can sometimes be motivating to some people.
I think you're wrong about the insurance though. The owners stood to make much more in stud fees on this horse.
Haven't you ever had a pet that you loved? I hunt and fish and wouldn't consider myself to be an "animal-loving-freak.." , but I have been very attached to some pets in my life.

here's my stock answer on this topic ( and i've been reported a couple times for saying this )......did anyone else hear about that toddler who was found dead in his neighbors septic tank,or the newborn that was left on the steps of a church ? i'm sure unless people live where this happened not alot have heard about it because the media has been focused on a stupid horse.

another thing that bothers me is they say the horse was put to sleep because it was in constant pain from its injuries...well there are humans living in constant pain every day and they aren't put down...also this horse can no longer perform well again people everyday suffer devastating injuries and they are not put to sleep.....mention assisted suicide as an option for human suffering and it's called murder but it's ok for animals...i believe too much media is spent on animals as it is.

as for stud fees, whatever,i agree on the insurance angle and maybe he was studded,(if thats a word) out already or arraingments have been made for this horse to produce heirs
