On the recommendation form there's this question "how long have you known the applicant and in what capacity?" What does " in what capacity mean"? Thanks!

"In what capacity" means were you the boss of the applicant? Did you work with the applicant? How are you related to the applicant? In other words, how, and how well. do you know the applicant that you are being used as a reference.

How have you known the applicant: i.e., as a friend, co-worker; were you the employer/the applicant, employee. Were you classmates; is the applicant a relative; Were you the teacher/applicant, the student.

It means if you know the person in question then what kind of relationship did you have. Were you friends, or did you work together somewhere?

Meaning what was your relationship with the person aka as in how do you know them and from where,that sort of thing. :)
