if your gonna run stock exhaust manifolds - no problem there. gm made auto trans to withe dual bolt patterns - no problems there- but engine mounts you will have to make.

There's an old adage about engine swaps that goes, "You can fit anything into anything if you use a big enough hammer." Bearing that in mind a little more info would be helpful here. For example: what year is the 350? If this indeed an old Buick engine then it will fit with some minor mods but you'll be needing either a Buick/Olds/Pontiac long shaft transmission to match up to the Buick's different bolt pattern or an adapter plate (Edelbrock used to offer a good one many years ago, dunno if it's still available).

Of course if the 350 came out of a later model Buick then it's the 350 corporate block engine, (read: Chevrolet small block) in which case this is pretty much a drop in swap. Pederson publications detailed your proposed project in one of their engine swap manuals years ago, you might want to contact them and see if they still have a copy lying around.

Best of luck.

The buick engine will in fact fit the truck, but you will have trouble finding the mounts that will work. I'm 55 years old and I have been wrenching on cars for about 40 years, or at least ever since I was big enough to crawl up on a fender to do so. Some of the older GM vehicles used what is known as the clam shell mounts. These same mounts were used in many cars and trucks. You will have to find a set of these to make it fit. You can still buy them new. The transmission will not work unless you have one that has both bolt patterns on it. Yes they did make some that had both bolt patterns. I own a transmission shop and have seen this many times. Measure from center to center on your top bell housing bolts to make sure. Also measure from center to center on the dowl pins. You may have to use a set of headers to make your exhaust work out. The 85 is a computer controlled vehicle, so you will have to do away with the computer, but this is not a problem. I own a drag car, and a old 74 chevy truck that I run at the track every weekend, weather permitting. I have seen every kind of engine stuffed in every kind of vehicle, so I know this can be done. If you can get the motor at a deal, then I would say go for it! I see this VW Bug at the track with a 350 chevy engine in it, so it just depends on your own determination.
I hope you don't still think I don't know what I am talking about. I would hate to think I just waste my time on here typing answers to questions, and have someone come along trying to make me look stupid. I have a Certification as a Master Mechanic, and if you wish to see it, then I would be glad to send a copy to you. I know you voted on another question for a wrong answer, and thought the guy was giving you solid advice, but that is not the truth. Piston rings will stick to the cylinder walls, and they will stick to the pistons as well. I have seen engines that knocked like they were blown up, but once the rings got unstuck, and the compression quit bypassing the stuck rings, the engine ran like a new one. You may notice the nice gentleman that tried to talk to me like I didn't know anything, is no longer on here. If you will click on my avitar, you can see how many correct answers I get voted for as right, and I do it the old fashioned way. I'm honest. I don't spend much time on here, and I only answer a few questions each day, so you can take my advice or not, but being sucked into believing I'm less than what I say I am, is without merit. It is always best to check to see how many correct answers a person has before assuming they are stupid. Yeah, that guy sure told me, didn't he? Check him out, as he has insulted many people. People that know what they are talking about, and have a high enough education to not stoop that low to arugy with him. I just thought you needed to know that I do in fact have a degree, and a certification as a master mechanic. No I'm not always right, but this is in fact human.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
