Depends on your relationship to the deceased. If they're a signifigant other, Iron and Wine's "Naked As We Came" is excellent (it's about a married couple talking about mortality). Actually, any Iron and Wine song is good.
p.s. I noticed I got the only thumbs down on this question, and in trying to figure out why the only reason I could think of was that someone thought the song I suggested was dirty. It's not. It's a very sweet song. the lyrics go like this :
She says wake up it's no use pretending
I'll keep stealing breathing her
Birds are leaving over Autumn's ending
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open
Naked as we came
One will spread our
Ashes round the yard
She says if I leave before you darling
Don't you waste me in the ground
I lay smiling like our sleeping children
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open
Naked as we came
One will spread our
Ashes round the yard
It's the song my husband and I have agreed to play, for whoever goes first.

When I Get to Where I'm Going by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton.
One Sweet Day by Mariah Carey.
There's a new one by George Strait called You'll Be There? That's a good one too.

when my nan passed away in 2004 , I asked the funeral Director to play THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS... at one point.. he said he would have to ask my uncle who was the executor ...
he agreed to allow it to be played and it was the song to which her casket was carried from the church ....
Given that my nan WAS indeed the wind beneath MY wings , it was the MOST appropriate song for her
But it depends on the person and the relationship .. Eric Clapton's TEARS IN HEAVEN is a beautiful song for a child ( as indeed it was written for Eric's son Connor)
ANother one is mike and the Mechanics IN THE LIVING YEARS
EDIT:::
EMMA H .. I hadn't read your post until after i posted mine .. sorry to make it appear I coppied you,...

pick something that meant something to the deceased. i went to a funeral once where they played eye of the tiger - cause it was his absolute favourite song and would constantly play it on repeat on the cd player. it didnt seem out of place or wrong, because everyone there knew it was what he would have wanted.
