Because in two years the state of the art will have moved on to the point your laptop will be on the edge of becoming obsolete. You will be looking at replacing it anyway.

Think of it this way. Lets say you had gotten a ten year warranty on the computer you got in 1997... the one with the enhanced 486 chip... would you still want to be making warranty payments on it now?
