I just took my 1997 Plymouth Neon into the shop for the FIFTH time because it wouldn't start. So far they've replaced the battery, put a new starter in, put a new fuel pump in, new spark plugs, got a complete tune up, new wiring and it STILL has a problem starting! It only has 65,000 miles too! What's the deal?

from the sounds of it, it sounds like either a bad coil pack, or faulty ignition relay

Look stop being stupid and wasting money

Take it to Autozone and have them run a computer diagnostic this will tell you exactly what it is , unless its something purely mechanical, which i doubt

ITS FREE so dont waste anymore money :)

Their are still thousands of perfectly good 97 neons out their. Find yourself a dependable Dodge or chrysler dealer and let them do some diagnosis on it. If the timing belt was broke, it wouldn't run. If the throttle body needs cleaned, it should at leas start b pushing slightly on the gas pedal while you are cranking on the starter. Good luck

You dont have a good mechanic. First thing i suspect is broke timing belt very common on neons. this should have been the first thing checked but they wanted to rack up a bill. Find another mechanic you are paying for his/her kids college education.

No but my brand new battery on my 1996 Mercury Sable is a piece of crap. It died again on me today and no lights were even on in the car. I had to buy a whole new battery because it was parked in the garage and no one could get to it. I hope you get your problem fixed because it is a pain in the ***, literally!

Good Luck!
