If you haven't started or used calligraphy before, I recommend checking out a book at a library or craft store. All you need is a steady hand and a calligraphy pen. The pens usually have angled tips.

Different levels of proficiency require different tools. Fountains pens can create beautiful results, but the ink is not long lasting. dip pens, fine papers, hand ground and mixed inks, ready made inks....these are basic to the calligrapher. The earlier answerwer was referring to brush calligraphy...mostly used on oriental

Ink, C-10 pen (the pen can vary), paper and good handwriting would be a great advantage.
