So, the answer is 8

If you want to solve your math question first of all,you must transform ''1 pound'' in ''ounces''. To have ''ounces''.

1 pound = 16 ounces (definition for one pound)

Your problem become

( 8 ounces x 16 ounces)/ 16 ounces

= 8 ounces or an half pound (Final answer)

You need to make all the units the same. One pound is equal to 16 oz, so the equation becomes:

8 oz x 16 oz
----------------
16 oz

The 16s on the top and bottom cancel each other out, leaving you with 8 oz, which is half a pound.

Alternatively, you could also punch in (8 x 16) / 16 on your calculator. Remember to put the brackets in!

I believe you are talking about proportions. 8 ounces is to 16 ounces as 1 pound is to 'x' pounds.

8oz 1lb
--- x ----
16oz 'x'lb

You would need to cross multiply. It becomes:
8x = 1(16) or 8x = 16

you divide both sides by 8 to get the x by itself.
x = 16/8 = 2

so x = 2
