Write about the style that you are the most familiar with. Don't write about something you don't know.
I'd suggest Ballroom. Social ballroom as someone already suggested or competitive ballroom. Competitive ballroom is not as old, but old enough to have a history. Here is a video of competitve dancing from the 60's: http://www.emsbs.ch/kaiser_videos.htm

I just wrote a paper about the development of social dancing. There was an abundant supply of research. I actually narrowed the paper down to ballroom social dancing. It started with the nobility in the Middle Ages through the baroque. Eventually it found its way to the middle class in the Renaissance when printing music became easier due to technological advances.
P.S. Thoinot Arbeau wrote "Orchesography". It was a popular treatise in the Renaissance giving the general public instruction on dance etiquette. (very good resource)

Well, square dancing has been around a long time and is still very popular so I think that would be interesting to talk about. Also, another fun one to talk about would be the Irish step dancing!

Try Contra Dance. Google it. People dance it all over the world. Check it on wikipedia and you'll find a link to a video.

i would do ballet or else somthing with a good history, like the argentine tango. Falmenco would also be a good choice. Go in depth about famous dancers or performnaces and things that reallly shaped the dance that we know today.

Hip Hop because it is an diverse type od dance and it varies from region to region. You can't even define it because of that. Which also makes for a good essay subject.

the different individual is going to do hip hop, be unique and examine out hula. I also accept as true with Paige, you may want to pass into the Hawaiian custom, like even as they hula dance and for what causes.

when i was in school i took dance class..we learned about modern dancing..it was a very interesting subject to learn because of its heritage and background.
