So I have a '93 accord with a factory alarm. The key fob finally broke, and from what I hear, "universal" key fobs don't work with factory alarms so I have to get one from the factory for $100. Well for that price I could just get a fancier aftermarket one off ebay with a pager, I'm just wondering an idea how difficult and roughly how much time it would take to install to decide which route I'm going to go.

I've worked with electronics before doing basic soldering, I've also installed a couple car stereos before, and home theatre systems are easy for me, so that's about where my skill level is at.

Also are there any important things a first time installer should know, or be away to look out for when installing a new alarm?

The one I might be thinking about is the autopage rf-420, and I might end up adding a proximity sensor and/or pain siren.

Thanks

It probably would be hard because Honda has everything secure for safety reasons. You can probably get a good one off of eBay. But from experience electronics + eBay = trouble! But if you want to risk the phony guaranties off of eBay be my guest. But i would just get a Honda Dealer to fix your stock alarm for you. Something you should know about taking an alarm from a car it came in, is electrical shock. Could be deadly. I think that your idea of a proximity sensor is cool. haha

Anti-robbery might purely propose your motor vehicle has a starter kill. something that retains people from hotwiring your motor vehicle. maximum autos after ninety 5 had this and often the Anti-robbery or robbery device mild is concerning that. An alarm will somewhat blare a siren if your door is opened, your motor vehicle is began, or with many fashions if your motor vehicle is struck by potential of an impact. Aftermarket alarms are very effective in my journey.
