All Apple iPod music players work seamlessly with iTunes, which is a program that holds all of your music files that are on your computer, a "music library" to be exact. If you only have CDs you need to rip them to your computer by putting them in and following onscreen directions. You must have iTunes to put music on your Shuffle, I'm pretty sure, because they are both Apple products and they are very picky about that kind of stuff. Once you get your songs in iTunes connect the player and they go on automatically.
