There is a slight risk of having a miscarriage, but it is very small. Chances of it NOT happening is on your side. I have had 3 amniocentesis', due to maternal age. I didn't miscarry any of them. Good Luck!

I seem to think that my midwife told me that statistically the miscarriage rate from amniocentesis is 1 in 100.

Unless you are willing to abort the baby if the test comes back positive why take the risk. There is no treatment and it doesn't change anything to do with pregnancy, delivery or even usually infancy.

did you miscarry? if not do not worry unless they have told you that there is a problem. a lot of things are just routine for some docs. until then just enjoy caring a baby
