Ar you aware that alimony is no longer awarded in most states in the U.S.? When it is awarded it is usually only for specific amount of time so that the "displaced" spouse has time to find gainful employment or in cases where the desplaced spouse is disabled and unable to hold down even part time job. Alimony is no longer awarded "just because" ...that was one of the first things to go when the ERA was passed.

I have been divorced. I don't trust lawyers. To me they are legalize criminals. Most elected officical who help make the laws are lawyers. So they make everything so complicated that you need a lawyer for the most simple legal action. I have been though a divorce (twice) Two difference lawyers. As you can tell I am not impressed with lawyers. And yes you do end up having to do a lot of it yourself after paying them to do this for you. i would tell him/her how I feel. That they are not doing what you paid them to do.

Your present lawyer is an idiot. Fire him, it's that easy. Write a letter to him that you will no longer be needing his services. Any good lawyer will be happy to notify the courts that they are the new counsel of record and get another hearing date set. Good luck.

You hire a new one and he will request that your old one send over all pertinent documents. The new one will usually not take your case unless your old one has been paid.
