My husband insisted I take his name when I renewed my drivers licence. I see on the marriage certificate my maiden name and I see no place where I signed it by my new married name. I know taking a mans name is tradition and not law. Can I take my maiden name back now if I want to?

There's no harm if you insist to use whatever name you comfortable with.........but pls. ensure that there will be no consequences or problem it will cause you in the near future.
>property
>bank acc.
>$money
And more other things that sometimes we only can claim by using our married or husband name.

A marriage license will have his name and your maiden name listed. It is generally tradition that the woman take the mans last name. However, you can always continue to use your maiden name or use a hypenated name. ie: Maryann Jones-Lockwood
You may have to go to court to change it. Call the Department of Motor Vehicles and ask what their policy is on this?

On my marriage license, there's a place that states my "old name" (with my maiden name), then a place where I could state my "new name" if I want. If your license is set up the same way and you didn't state any kind of a new name, then I think you're ok.

If you got a new Social Security Card then no. If you did not get a new SS Card when you got married then yes. Legally you still have your maiden name.

Yep...you can do whatever you want to. You do not have to have your husbands name on anything YOU own. (yourself included) and it wasn't always customery to take the mans name...they used to make the men take the womans last name, if she had money and married into a 'royal' family.
I didn't want to use my husbands name ( my sister and I are all thats left of my family...my last name is Italian and one of the few thats in it's orginal spelling), so I hyphenated our last names to keep peace , with HIS folks. But I mostly only use my last name...Only people who don't know me well or the military call me Mrs. F

Yes you can always change your name if you want to. all you have to do is go in front of a judge and they ask you why you want to change your name and make sure your not doing it because your a criminal or anything. once they ok it, you could even chance your first name if you want to. I believe its around 50-100 dollars though. good luck!

Yes...go back and change it. It was easy enough to change it when you got married and it should be just as easy to change it back now...
