I remember tendonitis as being a burning kind of pain. If you feel the muscle that's hurting, areas affected by tendonitis feel softer than the surrounding muscle, slightly spongy almost. They also hurt a lot when you press them. A sports doctor or a physio will usually be able to pick tendonitis quite easily, as they see it a lot.
