Smokers: Do you choose the brand you smoke for the flavor or image?

Of course for taste! But, intially as a teen-ager, it was what everyone else was smoking. For me, it was Kool ....because I thought it would be cool.

I wish I never started though.

I think when people start smoking, its about the image, to look "cool". After the person becomes addicted, its about flavor.
I'm a smoker and every smoker I've ever known has agreed that their 1st cigarette tasted horrible (not to mention the gag/cough, nausea, lightheadedness). So, flavor was not the choice in the beginning for most smokers......but more of a gradual preference.

I smoke Camel Lights for many reasons. First, I like the taste, and more importantly the somewhat lack of an after-taste. They also seem to have more nicotine than other Light brands. I don't care too much about the image, but the promo where they let smokers send it concepts to be printed was kinda cool. Finally, they send me coupons like every other week for $20 off.

I don't smoke often, but when I do, I smoke Black n' Milds cigars. This is for a number of reasons. First, they are stronger than Marlboro Reds, which aren't strong enough for my preference. But more importantly, they are made with real pipe tobacco. Not only do they taste authentic, but they actually smell great too.

So the answer to your question is flavor. I love the taste and smell of true pipe tobacco.

I dont smoke anymore, but when I did it was usually for the flavor. Sometimes it was for the cost. I'd go for a cheaper brand.

In reality it's the nicotine strength that you require depending on how you smoke. Flavour/taste are really about aroma and make up of tar which you adapt to. Kids certainly go for image when they start and advertising will be the prime influence of that from an early age.

well first i smoked i completely different kind than i used to cuz i liked that flavor then i switched from non menthol to menthol just cuz i wanted to know the difference and i liked marb menthols but then i started being around people that only smoked newport and everytime i would bum a cigarette that is what i got and got used to and started liking better so i guess i would say because of flavor and association
