run barefoot around the gym in school?

Always; we weren't allowed to wear shoes, even if we'd forgotten something inside we got yelled at for walking a few steps shod in the gym, had to take off our shoes again or ask someone from the next class to hand it to us.
This is quite normal here in the Netherlands, I guess there are some schools that allow shoes to be worn but any school I've ever attended & know of personally through friends, was very strict barefoot PE, both grade schools & high schools. And guess what, kids here don't have a lot of athlete's foot!

Yes - In the UK we were not allowed to wear shoes for PE indoors and it was optional outdoors.
I think it was a combination of enjoying going barefoot at school and having a girlfriend who went barefoot whenever possible that made me a barefooter.

If I wanted athletes foot then I would run barefoot in the gym lol.

no, i've ran across a field, down country roads, through the woods, on the beach, and numerous other places barefoot.

No but I run naked around the gym in any school.

Yeah, so. Thats why they make you take a shower after PE, well mostly because you sweat.

I think that I did when I was younger. We had Girl Scouts there and it was an activity or something. :)
