I've noticed with my horses that reds and hunter greens are the colors to go with on a chestnut colored horse. If your chestnut looks more sorrel then blue would look great. But red will make your horse's natural color POP. I would try and stay away from the more bold colors- yellows, oranges, and pinks. These look great on gray and black horses- but on chestnuts they are really all you notice. You want your horse to be noticed so stay with colors that bring out your horses natural shine.

Like some people have said, any sort of green, dark/royal blue, or even purple would look good with a chestnut horse. I would definitely stay away from any red/warm tones as the horse is already that color.

Go to the link below. This is Hobby Horse's website and the link is for a color wheel that will give you color choices that will match your horse. They also have an interactive page that lets you see how well a color goes with a horse color. Good Luck

leather-based of any organic (no longer pink or eco-friendly) coloration will look sturdy on a chestnut horse, even on your bay horse. Reds and browns are correct hues and compliment one yet another. Chestnut horses could have various colorings of darkish manes and tails yet no black. If this is black, he's a bay. lovable horse, nevertheless. i'm prepared on Appaloosas. Has he any "powerful astounding" breeding?

I don't know if you ride western or not, but this site helps you pick colors for your horse:

Also, with a chestnut, I would use brown/light brown tack, I don't think black looks very good on lighter horses.

Stay away from red on red on most chestnut and sorrels it makes them look dull. Yellow makes them an orangy brown. Dark greens any blue or turquoise and tan all look great.

A dark hunter green, and dark leather with gold or brass hardware for the tack, would be quite striking I think-very classy.

Well, brown tack. As for a saddle pad I like hunter green, maroon, teal, offwhite or navy.

I agree with some others, dark green with dark brown tack looks especially classy. I also like burgundy, navy blue and black.
