Where I work, the water that is coming into the pipes for our consumption is the same water that is routed to the fire hydrants around the building I work. We have been told the water is safe. Does anyone know if it is ok?

I would hardly think that any water coming from a hydrant would be unsafe...due to the fact that firemen are usually in that stuff when fighting a fire. No one would take a chance on exposing the firemen to unsafe water. You could always take a sample from the faucet in the building and have it tested if you really want to feel secure about it.

Well, if its coming from the same place it probably is.
BUT...the pipes leading to the hydrant and the hydrant itself might contain lead or other toxins which would not be good for you. It shoudlnt affect the water coming into your building though.

City water is City water, and it's all potable (drinkable). Only time it wouldn't be is if the fire system water was being supplied by a local reservoir and some pretty hefty fire pumps, but that's not likely anymore.
