Revenge can be both good and bad. It's bad if you want to hurt someone else, even if they hurt you. Like bratty children who kick their brother because he hit her, adults often want to get revenge by doing something as bad or even worse to someone who offended them in some way.
But it can also be good, like in the saying "living well is the best revenge." If you use what someone has done to hurt or offend you, and make yourself a better person, or improve the world around you, then revenge isn't hurting anyone else, it's just helping you.

Showing whoever the revenge is aimed at that you are not someone who can be screwed with and you refuse to be a victim. Of course, this all depends on the situation

Getting back at someone who hurt you in one way or another. To make them feel the pain that they made you feel. Might offer closure in some cases.
