I would strongly suggest making an appt to see your doctor just incase! It is always better to be safe than sorry. 18 is a bit old to never have had a menstrual cycle.

Depending on what your gynecological and medical history is, there could be several things going on.
Skipping periods is a symptom of a hormonal change in your body, and many things can cause this.
No, this isn't normal; however, chances are it's not serious either.
Many women skip periods or are late or irregualr due to dietary changes, lack of sleep, and stress.
What is going on in your life right now? Are you under more stress than usual? Exams at school and boyfirends/girlfiends causing you stress? Are you eating enough and getting enough rest? Have you begun an exercise program that's intense or stressful for weight loss? Have you gained or lost weight in the last several months? (more than about 2 lbs per week isn't safe to lose without medical supervision).
If so, try to minimize these factors, and your hormonal cycle will probably become normal again.
If you're really concerned about this, or have other issues such as medications you are taking that may be a factor, please see your doctor or a nurse practitioner.
Many services for women are available at local clinics for little or no fees.

you could be under a lot of stress, hormonal changes, etc... if you aren't having your period you should probably go and get looked at. my sister didn't get her period when she had cysts on her ovaries, but there could be many reasons. I would get checked out. If nothing is wrong just wait and see what happens. I wouldn't think that the viginal opening isn't big enough because you would not have had your period yet and you would've found out a long time ago, plus you'd have already had major problems, so that isn't the problem, but like I said you need to get checked if you are concerned, this will ease your mind.

Good luck!

It's not uncommon for a teenager's menstrual cycle to be inconsistent. If this is a sudden change, and your periods were regular for a couple of years before this, you should probably go to your gynecologist early this year to see what's up. They will probably pregnancy test you anyway, as sometimes people lie or don't remember their activity. (Not saying that you fall into either category; just explaining why they'll test you even after you say there's no way you could be pregnant.)

But don't worry; lots of things can cause skipped periods. Stress can do it, as can birth control and heavy exercise. But, as with any other sudden change in your body's habits, it's better to be safe than sorry. Get it checked out by your doc.

Sometimes stress can be a factor, or being underweight. Are you real active in sports, that could be another reason? There are a lot of reasons why you might skip. If you have not had a period for more than 4 months I would head to the Dr there could be real health reasons why you are not having a period.

It takes 2-3 years for your periods to become regular, and some women never do.

Are you underweight? You have to have a certain amount of body fat to menstruate.

Are you super athletic, like a runner or gymnast? That can also effect your periods.

If it persists, have it checked out.

Generally it is normal for a young woman to miss some periods. Most likely, you are experiencing some type of stress, which is causing you to miss your periods. Also, if you have had a large weight loss or gain, that can influence your period as well.

A lot of women have this problem. Usually this means that you are pregnant. If you are sure that you are not pregnant then that is not the problem. Sometimes women skip their period. That is perfectly normally. However, if you continue having this problem, then you should consult your doctor. Hope things get better!

Oh yea same thing happened to me when I was younger. (I know my pic is of a guy but i'm really a girl) It eventually stopped skipping months not sure what caused or causes it though. Maybe the use of any drugs if you do that.

Hormonal imbalance or PCOS. Both of these can cause loss of periods.

Extreme stress can also do it.

See a Gyn for diagnosis and treatment.
