The school counselors at my school are COMPLETE morons. They are always trying to put you into classes that you do not even need, and when it comes to senior year, you find out that you are missing a bunch of classes. Luckily, I check the requirements to graduate and the requirements to go to college so I already KNOW what I need. I am DONE with science, I took my two lab science and two other sciences; I am a Junior. All that I need is 12th grade English and Gov. & Economics. I go to the office today to make sure that the idiot doesn't screw up my schedule and he is trying to tell me that I need to take science, take this and that, when I KNOW that I am DONE. He also put me into a bunch of classes w/o asking or even telling me. And when I tell him that "I do not need science or math", he goes on to say "well, I do not know". WTH?! This same exact BS is why my friend (who is a senior) is taking THREE English classes because the counselors did NOT give her the classes she needed.

He also wanted to take me out of Journalism (I am a freaking EDITOR. Why WOULD he take me out when I am an editor?! Do you know how good that looks for college?!) He was nagging on and on about how I already took it. GOSH, I think that it shows colleges that I actually CARE about the school newspaper! WTH?!

I have over 5 YEARS of credits for HISTORY and FOUR years for MATH. If you are SMART, you would know that you only need THREE years of math and WORLD HISTORY &/OR EUROPEAN HISTORY, US HISTORY, GOV & ECONOMICS. WTF? FOUR YEARS OF HISTORY? ARE YOU A DUMBASS? I guess that you are one of those IDIOTIC people who do not know **** about what they are talking about. I am going to graduate with over FIVE credits of English when you only need FOUR because I am in JOURNALISM. OK *****?! High level courses? *****, all my classes are AP and Advanced. Do not talk **** if you do not know anything maggot. LOL, you're pathetic.

school counselors are incompetent bc they don't care about what they are doing. they didnt go to school hoping to grow up and be a hs counselor. they just couldnt get any other job. (they'll hire anyone) and they get paid very little. so basically they have no motivation to really help you.

I hear your pain. When I was in high school, I quickly learned that the worst place for advice was in the guidance office. You can blame any number of factors.... Like all of us, counselors have a certain bias about how people should be educated and what kind of jobs they should have, and I have found that too often they try to make all students conform to this vision. Parents do this too, to an extent, but I think parents are usually far more in tune with their children's needs and desires than the guidance counselor, and can make better recommendations.

However, I can't say I disagree with everything your counselor has done. I'm not sure how much math and science you have actually done (saying you've done 2 courses doesn't mean much), but it's not like these courses are going to turn you into a physicist. They are very basic courses that will give you some fundamental skills and knowledge that a person in the 21st century should simply have. Perhaps your counselor was urging you to reconsider your decision. I would too.

Where I disagree with your counselor is in adding courses to your schedule without asking. He has no right to do this. And he also sounds careless, not knowing what the graduation or credit requirements for each person are. It's good that you are on top of things and are sorting them out. But be easier on them, and if in doubt, SEEK ADVICE FROM YOUR PARENTS.

There are different requirements for merely graduating, versus graduating with the state education award. Many states give a certificate of academic excellence if you take 4 years of math, science, english, and history. If you take only 3 years, you don't receive it. See if your state offers that program. Colleges like to see diversified curriculums with proven, long-term experience in many subjects.

Edit: You say you have 4 years of science. What about higher level science? Do you have 4 years of history, math, etc.?

Grow up. You're an immature brat. Your school staff has more LIFE experience than you. One day, you'll get over your whining.

Ok well I agree to come extent... this happens simply because of student overload... but you should have known what courses you needed, or at least been provided with that info so you could be in control....
anyhow wait till college it gets worse and unless you have a strict majors you have to pic everything yourself!! and the counselors are worse!!! especially the finantial aid ones!!
Good luck! this is my 8th semeter and I have had a problem free one yet !!

I know what you mean because today they screwed up my report card, giving me a 91% instead of 95% in history. I was really, really upset, because I never get 91% in anything except Advanced Chemistry, which is the hardest class I've ever taken.

And I'm an Editor of the newspaper, too. I take Creative Writing, because there is no Journalism class.
