There's only one capital in the Netherlands, it is Amsterdam. Amsterdam is the biggest city and economically the most important (well, ok, Rotterdam has its harbor).
The government however is in the Hague (Den Haag).
I know one other country where this is the case: Bolivia, the official capital is Sucre, but government resides in La Paz.

The Hague is the seat of the Dutch parliament, government and Royal courtroom (however the city isn't the capital of the Netherlands that's a functionality set aside in the Dutch shape for Amsterdam). Sucre (inhabitants 247,3 hundred in 2006) is the constitutional capital of Bolivia and the capital of the dep. of Chuquisaca. the place the government is does no longer may be the capital city of the country.

Like the posters before me said, Amsterdam is the capital, but the government is in Den Haag. The reason the government and captial are seperated is this: The Hague had no political power in the 16th century. It didn't have city rights, it didn't have any political or social power, so it was neutral ground for the government to decide things. It was also a more central location. Amsterdam was too big, had too much economical power, etc, but it was the captial during the reign of Lodewijk Napoleon (Napoleon Bonaparte's brother). When the Netherlands were freed of Napoleon, the government returned to its 'original' location: The Hague.

We have only got one capital: Amsterdam.
Many non-Netherlands are confused, because our governments seats in The Hague.
However, the official Royal Palace is in Amsterdam. And the Queen is head of state.
(although her private home is elsewhere now)
Got it now?
Cheers!
