Check with your rabbi.
Some Jews frown upon getting tattoos, because when you die you're supposed to give your body back to the earth with nothing added and nothing taken away.
Sometmies adding / taking away can't be helped, for example, accidents, amputations, surgical repairs and implants, etc, but if it can be helped, as with a tattoo, it should be avioded.

It's your choice, but I don't think a Star of David is a good choice for a tattoo. As someone else mentioned, tattoos are generally prohibited (or at least discouraged) in Judaism, so it's not really an appropriate design - it might make you seem hypocritical, like you want to display your religion but ignore or don't understand its customs. On top of that, tattoos have a bad connotation for some Jews because of the ones prisoners were forced to get during the Holocaust: a Star of David tattoo could be like a slap in the face to people who make that association, even if your tattoo is actually a positive thing to you.

If it has meaning for you, go for it! Much better to come in with your own idea than pick it out of a catalog. The location's good, too--you can hide it when you need to.
The people at the "tattoos" section (Beauty and Style ---> Skin and Body ----> Tattoos) have lots of advice on pain tolerance, finding a good artist, and care.
By the way, I have two tattoos and am thinking of a third. I figure I'll be saggy and baggy at 65 one way or another.

that sounds very cool, im not jewish frankly, but that design is just cool and people will like how you respect your religion and are not getting a trashy tattoo of a skull of something.

I would check with the Rabbi first, I had heard that tattoos are a no-no for the faithful.

I would find it ironic considering that its not allowed for a Jew to get a tattoo according to Judaism.

My friend getting a tattoo is illegal by halacha. Please don't get a Magen David tattoo especially if you are Jewish it will be hypocritical to Judaism.

I'd ask a rabbi if they thought it was appropriate if you have any concerns. Sounds like a cool idea to me though.
