It's because so many lazy people now take advantage of the system and get stamps and welfare because they're too fat and lazy to get out and get a job. Therefore, it makes those who really need the assistance look bad.

Well, I think it's perfectly normal for us to judge others, but the moment we hold it against them, it becomes a problem.

That said, there are a few reasons for this:

1. People think assistance programs are being abused, and they are. However, they tend to stereotype anyone who seeks assistance.

2. There is a negative attitude toward anyone who shows weakness be it financially, physically, or emotionally.

3. The poor or the needy are looked down upon in general.

4. Many don't know what it is like to be in need, and they assume that if they made it, everyone else can. While this is mostly true, everyone needs a little help now and then. Some people are fortunate enough to get money or food from their loved ones. Others do not have that opportunity, and they must seek assistance elsewhere.

5. Taxpayers don't like where their money is going, especially when they worked for it and are asked to give it to someone else who may not have worked for it.

I don't think it's fair to generalize everyone seeking welfare, especially if they consider it a very temporary solution. Those who are on it because they like handouts bring negative judgment upon themselves.

I totally agree with you. I have noticed a lot of people that will actually take time out to answer serious questions about how to apply/use different types of assistance, mostly food stamps and Medicaid- with answers like "Gee I wish I could live off the government" and "You should get off the computer and go get a job". These are answers from ignorant people who should be grateful that they do not have incomes low enough to qualify for these programs.

I only dog the ones who use food stamps then I see them get into a big, new SUV and drive away. There are some who abuse the system. There have been times when I lived on mac and cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, etc. so I could pay my rent, yet I make too much money to qualify for food stamps.

Generally people assume that everyone on assistance is milking the system. They don't realize there are people that have worked at their jobs for years and then suddenly had them pulled from them and have no choice then to seek help. That is why I don't judge people because I don't know their situation.

half those people who dog other people probally get assistance themselves but are to ashamed to admit it. people do that to make themselves feel better and to look cool. b/c everbody think it is so cool to make fun of other people until someone talks about them it so stupid. but it is how the world view people it you dont stick up for your self you are basically called a sissy or now a day a bum, *****, dum ***, retard, etc. the world today is so screwed up but we live in it the only thing we can do is either sit back and watch it go to hell or do something about it.

Because it makes them feel better about themselves to put someone else down. Also people think that a lot of their taxes they pay are going towards it, but it's actually only about 1% of the taxes that go towards that and the rest goes toward other things like defense.

Maybe because they have never went hungry. and always had 3 meals a day. most people don't know people go hungry. as for the food stamps. You should ask them if: "Have they ever went Hungary.?" and ask then if they have ever seen a child go Hungary? then maybe they will think about it next time. But, maybe they should empty their fridge, and not buy food for a week, and see what it is like.

There is a stigma attached to accepting help, especially from the government. There are people who abuse this privilege, making the rest of the people who are trying to better their lives look like leeches.
