Guy/girl discrimination??

When my brother was my age and younger, my parents were always encouraging him to go find a girlfriend, go on dates, and party.
Im 15 now, and my parents want to keep me locked in my room away from the world.... particularily guys... I find this insulting because I have shown time and time again that I can handle my self in situations, and I am very mature and responsible. (The situations I speak of are being asked out by jerks, and invites into bedrooms) Is this only because im girl?

Whats your take on this?
Any opinons are welcome :)

The double standard is alive and well in American culture. Men are supposed to get as many girls as they can, while girls are supposed to remain pure.

Sure, most people won't say this overtly - unless you've been talking to the purity ball/fundamentalist wackjob types - but the cultural bias is still there that a woman's sexuality is valued as a commodity and not for its own sake.

Yeah that is very sexist. But your parents want to protect you from getting pregnant, or from getting drugged by a psycho and raped. But with a boy, getting a girl pregnant can be just as bad. But it is biased though.

Try to resist it in a MATURE way. Go out and party, but don't get too drunk, watch out for micked drinks (drugged drinks), and don't let any guys pressure you into having sex with them.

who is hunter and who is the prey
sad but true... the man is rarely ever the prey (without wanting to be)
even if your strong and you can take it... its the perspective of your parents... its.... your parents see you as more vulnerable than your brother
and they are stubborn
I can sorta relate it discrimination
discrimination is based on prejudice (A judgment or opinion formed before the facts are known)
they don't see that you are strong and can handle yourself
they only see their little girl surrounded by older men

good question

and I really think Salek has a good point

The reason your parents are more protective of you is because guys can be more physically abusive towards women than women towards men. Your brother could protect himself when he was your age with the opposite sex, but can you really protect yourself. If a larger, stronger guy really wanted to do something forceably, you could get hurt and your parents know this and only care for you when they say you can't do what your brother used to. Please listen to your parents. I beg you...Don't be upset with them for loving you more than you know....Wait till your old enough to live on your own.....Trust me ....you'll be telling your parents thank you later on when all of your frieinds who have parents that let them do what they want end up pregnant and with man problems.
