Congratulations on your pregnancy! A very relentless headache can be a sign of a dangerous condition known as preeclampsia during pregnancy. Please be on the safe side and call your doctor. She might want to have you come in for an office visit, during which she will monitor your blood pressure and other vital signs. Preeclampsia can be very, very dangerous, so even though you probably just have a plain old headache, the stakes are high - call that doctor, girl!

As for what remedies are safe during pregnancy, my ob/gyn gave me a list of pain relievers, cold medicines, antacids, and other medications he approved. Consult your individual doctor for a list. You might be surprised to find that your preferred headache medicine is on the safe list.

I agree you should avoid herbal remedies, though relaxing herbal teas such as Celestial Seasonings or Lipton are fine.

Sometimes a headache can be caused by changes in a caffeine routine. Do you normally drink coffee, tea, or colas, then suddenly stopped? That could cause headaches for up to two weeks (ask me how I know!)

Caffeine can also be a natural headache easer, though ask your doctor about it during pregnancy. My ob/gyn okayed up to 3-4 c. (6 oz cups) brewed coffee per day, or equivalent. I drink black tea and green tea and found that sometimes a cup of strong regluar black tea helps a headache.

Some women are more sensitive to the hormonal changes of pregnancy and experience headaches. If you find you are having them often, mention it to your doctor. Unfortunately it might just be something you have to cope with until after you deliver.

Good luck to you!

I'm 37 weeks pregnant right now and all through this pregnancy I have been having headaches like you would not believe they are from my sinuses and what I found helps is putting ice on them when you do that it reduces the swelling. It helps temporaily but it's worth a try. Also I hate to tell you this but you are allowed to take tylenol IF YOUR OBGYN SAYS SO ONLY!!!!!!!!!!. So call them and ask if you can take that if they say no then try the ice I have been miserable. Stay away from GREEN TEA or RASEBERRY TEA I heard that stimulate contractions. Good Luck!

You should make an appointment for a review, headache that is unrelieved can be a sign of high blood pressure. Drink plenty of water, rest, avoid caffeine. Panadol is safe in pregnancy, as long as the guidelines are followed.

You are correct in steering clear of any herbal treatments. If you drink one cup of coffee or tea this can constrict the blood vessles in your head just enough to give you some relief and is NOT harmful to your baby. In addition to this, have someone rub your neck and shoulders (or do it yourself) and take a warm bath to relax. If your breasts are getting large, you may have tension headaches caused from back tension to support them. Do some back muscle exercises every day and stretching.

Walking is good for most pregnant women and is a wonderful way to get rid of a headache. Various relaxation techniques can also be helpful.
