If you have leaf springs (the long, flat springs holding the axle to the truck) they will be firmly mounted on one end with a bushing and the other end will have a part that will allow the leaf spring to shift fore and aft slightly. The part that permits the slight shifting is the shackle and it is normally on the rear most end of the spring.

Shackles are usually at the rear of a leaf spring, the front is bolted to the frame and the rear has shackles between the spring and the frame to allow the spring to flex.
