JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a standard method used to compressed images. The most common file for this format is .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe,... GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is another type of compression format that can support animation. GIF can only rendered 256 colors, which is not well suited for photographs, so it usually used as simple graphics or logos.
