Well, other than buying new memory, you could clear out some of the programs that you have running on startup. If you see lots of icons on the lower left of your screen, that means that you have all of these programs loading on startup.

If you are running Windows XP then go to Start-Run- and type "msconfig.exe" Go to the start up folder and uncheck all of the programs that you do not need to run on startup. If you are unsure what it is then either leave it alone or google it. If you extend the screen out so you can see the entire command window (you will know what I am talking about once you are there), you may have a good idea of what program it is.

Most programs do not have to run on startup. It just makes it a second or two faster loading the file.

I would sugges getting at least 1Gig of ram nowadays (if your computer supports it). Check the manufacturer.

Also, to preserve RAM, do not have too many windows open at once. And one last thing, you can increase your virtual memory (which acts as RAM to a certain extent) by going to your Control Panel -performance and maintenance -system properties -advanced tab -perfromance tab -settings -avanced -virtual memor -change ...then increase it from there.

There are even more ways to lower your ram useage. But, do those things above and that will help tremendously.

Ram are a stick-like chip in your computer. If you buy some just open your computer up and stick it in a slot.

Consider RAM as how big a table is. The bigger it is, the more workspace you have. Therefore you can run more programs at the same time. If you don't have enough ram, your computer will automatically use virtual ram, that using the free space on your harddrive as ram.

You can also free up some ram by using msconfig to stop unwanted programs from starting up when Windows starts up.
