I am thinking of purchasing this car and the carfax report does not include the model or make of the car as it usually does, but just the VIN number. Also, the there are only two notes on the report and the first one was made after 51,000 miles? I asked the dealer and he stated that Audi/Volkswagon owned the car and since it was used by the dealer they did not send the info out (I am forgetting now, but I think he said they did not send the info out to the dmv) Can anyone shed some light on this situation? Specifically, under what circumstances this may be plausible? Title washing? Grey Market cars? Vin cloning? Thanks.

If a dealer used the vehicle, they may have never titled the car prior to 51,000 miles. I know of at least three trucks that have over 150,000 on them, and they still have not been titled. A dealer will many times will not title a vehicle that they are using in the dealership, either as a parts delivery car or as a company car for one of the employees.

There is no reason for a dealer to pay the tax and title fees, when they can stick a dealer tag on the vehicle and drive it. I have a van that I bought (used) in 2001. It is one that I use for transportation. I have driven it 85,000 miles and have not titled it in the dealership name.

Have the car checked out by your own qualified mechanic, and base your choice on the condition of the vehicle!

Carfax can only show you what has been reported to them. I know a car with over 200.000 miles on it but Carfax shows that it only has 57.000 miles on it.

when you get a car fax report like this one is ,it does make you a little suspicious ,it could be legitimate ,or not,you may never know on this one,to me car fax is use less because i seen a truck a while back that had been totaled out,and we ran a Car fax check on it,and it came back clean ,no accidents at all,so i don't even use them anymore even though I'm a registered member,i think its useless,id use my judgment on it before id believe in a car fax report, good luck with it,this is one of those you buy at your own risk, hope this help,s.
