Main thing: You create content that nobody can resist to visit.
That gets You visitors that think You page is good, recommend and return and who will link You if Your page really has something to offer and share. Good links is one of the key points for google rank and listing. So good give away content (info, pics whatever) is also a good idea. I got my first good link to a free JavaScript that I put online to help ppl with their Janim lake applet templates.
Additionally You do some SEO work for the page.
( SEO = Search Engine Optimization is a search word that takes You to relevant pages specializing in how to get to the top ).
Many aspect to SEO - one is to write proper html.
