Some women I've talked to have said they were really just the same and others have said way worse.

Labor pains are more intense, but come & go intermittantly. Your abdomen will get hard during a contraction when you are in labor. The contractions usually start at perhaps 15 -20 minute intervals and increase as labor progresses. There is usually no pain to speak of between them.

The same sensation, just multiplied hundreds of times in intensity! Of course, not all experiences are the same…

At first, I didn't even realize I was in labor -- I woke up at 3 a.m. and felt restless, so I went and watched TV. My husband woke up a little later and checked on me, and I said that I might be in labor, because it was starting to feel like cramps.

By the time we got to the hospital, they were still fairly normal, like bad cramps. The Obstetrician came in and broke my water and started me on some pitocin, which helped the labor progress. That was when they became much more intense; and I told my husband not to speak, and I sent my best friend out of the room.

The Dr. had stepped out to check on the girl in the next room for maybe 15 minutes and when he came back in, I said, "Now I know what they mean by the urge to push!" There's no describing the sensation other than that: incredibly intense cramps and the urge to bear down. He seemed surprised that I had advanced that rapidly, but I was ready; and 3 pushes later, the boy was out of me. He looked like a C-section baby because he didn't even have time to crown!

Nearly 16 years have passed, and I still remember it so clearly... if I could do it over, I'd have had the epidural; but NO, I had to be "natural"! LOL!

Good luck to you!
