Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese maritime explorer who, at the service of Spain, led the first successful attempt at world circumnavigation. He became the first person to lead an expedition sailing westward from Europe to Asia and to cross the Pacific Ocean. He was the first to navigate the strait in South America connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Two of the closest galaxies, the Magellanic Clouds, were discovered by crew members in the Southern Hemisphere. The full extent of the Earth was also realized, since their voyage was 14,460 leagues. He was also the first European to land in the Philippines and meet its native people.

That enough?

Ferdinand Magellan led the first successful circumnavigation around the earth. The voyage started in August 10, 1519, with 5 ships and left from Seville, Spain. On September 6, 1522 the remaining crew returned to Spain. Magellan himself didn't survive the journey; he was killed in the Phillipine Islands on April 27, 1521 in the Battle of Mactan.

Ferdinand Magellan was the first explorer to lead a voyage around the world. He represented Spain but he was Portuguese. During this voyage, he "discovered" the Philippines but was killed there by a native called Lapu-Lapu. (The native people were there first...it's like Columbus "discovering" the Americas) He didn't complete the trip but the other ships did. He also named the Pacific Ocean because its waters were so peaceful (Mar Pacifico).

Magellen was a Portugese explorer in the very early 1500's who set out to find a shorter way to the "Spice Islands " which are in today's Indonesia. He did not intend to travel around the entire globe , but his mates who were traveling with him pushed on after he died after finding the way westward to the Spice Islands decided to circumnavigate the entire globe. he was also the one who led the first Europeans underneath the southern tip of South America on his journey westward to find the Spice Islands.

You can find more about this by going to Wikipedia.org and on there type in Magellan. They have a huge article about him there

He was a Spanish explorer who was the first to circumnavigate the globe. Well, actually, he didn't *exactly* circumnavigate the globe. He was killed by natives in the Philippines about halfway around it, and his crew finished the journey. But he usually gets credit for circumnavigating the globe anyway.
