First of all...I know this sounds REALLY dumb to you at the moment, but DON'T try to be a skinny chick because you think guys like that better. You only have to worry about what YOU think.

Secondly...SO many kids your age go through stages of being chunky, followed by a huge growth spurt. You may be in the chunky stage. Your family is also right. When you hit puberty, you will change! In fact, you may only be getting the curves you're meant to have as a woman now...and are not chunky at all.

Believe me...when I started getting curves...I wanted to DIE! I thought I was the fattest thing ever born. As it turned out, I wasn't getting 'fat' at all. I was just filling out in the areas women are supposed to!

Hang in there. Try to eat healthy and be active, and don't stress about being chunky! I think you'll be just fine.

First of all, its good that you want to be happy with yourself, just make sure its for you not anyone else. Right now don't focus so much on being "skinny" rather than being healthy. Not all healthy people are skinny. stay active that is the main thing. you don't have to cut out all the stuff you like to eat, just not so much, make sure drink lots of water, don't eat 4 hours before bed, have lots of hobbies to keep you ocuppied from sitting all day. You will be fine, if you try to lose weight and can't it may be your thyroids. You might need to see a doctor if you don't slim down some. Just have fun, be a teen, love life and don't sweat the small stuff. God Bless

hey.. im about 5 ft, and im at the high end of the normal bmi range. maybe check your bmi, and see what range you are in. i used to think like that, and i realized that some of the "fat" was just puberty. in reality, i really wasnt quite as fat as i kept thinking. i've gotten a lot better now, and all i did was change to eating breakfast (a couple apple slices) instead of skipping it, eating a bagel for lunch instead of a pizza slice, and eating dinner normally, no dessert, soda, or sweets. prolly around 5-6 lbs may be water weight, and as soon as i started cutting back on all the not so healthy stuff i was consuming i was down about 6 lbs in 3-4 days.

and anyways, even when i was chunky, i had plenty of friends, guys and girls, and everyone liked me. i know i didnt think so, but now that i think about it, its true. it seems that we always seem scrutinize ourselves more than other people.

just make sure you eat healthy, no junk food n stuff, exercise normally, and you'll do great. : )

Oh boy, I remember the time between 12 and 13. I had a lot of "baby" fat. Your family is right that your body will change when you start puberty. I don't think you should aspire to be a skinny chick. You sound like a real nice girl. Stop drinking a lot of sugary drinks (regular soda), don't eat junk food between meals, and don't eat a lot of fast food. Get in the habit of munching on carrots and apples and drinking water. Eating yogurt is good, too. Don't skip meals, though, but you can cut down on your portions.

Yeah, puberty will change things. But hey, wut you think is chunky and what others think is chunky are different things. Other people might now think your chunky. All girls are insecure no matter how much they want to deny it, everybody hates something about themselves. All I can say is to look in the mirror and no matter how long it takes find 5 things you like about yourself. Everytime you start to lose focus on skool cuz of it just remember those things u like. Hope that helps at least a little! <33 Courtney

Start educating yourself on what is good & healthy to eat and gocus on eating that kind of stuff...as a general rule. Also, get into some kind of exercise and make it a habit. The baby fat will come off faster if you do that. Puberty will bring a lot of changes. But you can help by chosing which direction you want to go in.

I suggest you might want to go to your school counselor for help if you worry too much about being fat. Ignore all those skinny models and celebrities like Nichole Richie (no offence to her). Just because you get your period does NOT mean you will get fat you just get wider. And boys that only like skinny chicks for their looks are just shallow. REAL boys look for more than just looks I'm 13 nearly 14 and have my period and sometimes I feel fat it's natural. Go out for a run, get involved in sports, and EAT healthy foods.

PS- swimming is good

you're not hitting puberty and you're worried about being skinny? This honey, is the media hyping up skinning girls as being better, but we all know that's competely not true. Those skinny girls probably purge, starve or otherwise kill themselves to be thin. And guess what? Guys don't find puke-breath sexy.

Want a quality boyfriend? Take it super-slow and meet the right guy for you and never EVER think yourself as being less valuable due to a couple of pounds.

I have dated model-types and everyone else... trust me, the only girl i ever loved had a few extra pounds, however what wasn't sexy was how she hated how she looked even though i was in-love with her, and eventually her self-hate tore us apart. She lost an awesome guy who was in love with her because she was determined to call herself "Cow" all the damn time.

Love who you are and everything else falls into place, hon.

I had some weight problems when I was your age. I would classify it as being pudgy. In my experience, I hit pubery at 13, and my body did change. I slimmed down without any effort. I stayed slim until I had my first child at age 21. Don't worry too much about it, although I know that is hard. Things will change. I found the less I thought about it, the quicker changes would happen. Good luck to you. (hugs)

Chunky? No such thing.

Of course, you want to be skinny. First of all, at 13, relationships shouldn't be on your mind. Second, if you want to look better and healthier, dedicate yourself to it.

Train your muscles lightly (I promise you wont "bulk up")

Do 30 minutes of cardio every other day. (Walking will do)

Eat smaller portion sizes, and take a multivitamin, calcium, and Vitamin C tablet every day at breakfast.

Eat cereal with <5g of sugar, and packed with Fiber (MultiGrain Cheerios are great)

Lastly, down that water. Lots of it. It brings up metabolism.

And remember, dedicate yourself to these easy steps, and you will lose a little (or a lot of weight). Just remember it takes time, and dont obsess over your weight. Love yourself for who you are.
