c I'm just a beginner but I'm trying to solve more than just the easy puzzles.

My choice would be (a) because I have graduated from solving the beginners' sudoku puzzles to the more difficult ones. Each type requires different strategies. Learning to adopt better and more logical strategies makes the puzzle an interesting mental exercise.
I dont think doubling the speed of solving is worthwhile except when one thinks he has reached the limit of his solving abilities, and gets to regard quantity as more important than quality. If one can master the technique of solving difficult sudoku puzzles, he can easily increase his speed of solving less difficult ones.
